Finally yest marks the end of our NIE community proj which many other grps have already finish long time ago. Some grp finish wif a 1 day flag day, some wif a trip dwn to zoo wif e kids etc. Ours is a bigger scale wif a lot of preparation work involved.
We aimed to target 100+ elderly to come dwn for a lunch event. A free lunch provided for poor elderly living near Eden community services centre plus performances & lucky draw & game provided for them. (Speaking abt performance, e Mayflower taekwondo teacher in charge tt we been liasing wif turns out to be my sec sch chemistry teacher-Ms Leau! Jus tt she is Madam nw & has a kid..time flies..)
We tried to get sponsorers for lucky draw prizes & door gifts. However, due to time contrainst & busy schedule of our training at NIE, we do nt have much time to get lots of sponsorers. At the end of the day we ourselves became e main sponsorers having to fork out 100 bucks each for lucky draw prizes & food catering. N i only knew abt this on e actual day of e event tt is yest. Well it was said tt we are still waiting for e sponsorship frm MCYS & if granted, we will be refunded back but chances are nt high. I jus felt if we ve e time & if we knew abt this earlier, we can source for other alternatives & hopefully get more stuffs for e elderly. I cant help but compare it wif Cyberia camp & hw it was possible to get money frm NYC to improve e food & prizes for e participants. N here we are toking abt poor elderly.
But den i nvr regret our grp taking up dis proj. Even thou this is a non-graded module & becoz of e lack of time, there came e temptation to opt for an easy proj. However, it really boils dwn to whether yr proj benefits e society. N when i c e happy faces of e elderly yest, I really felt like everything is worth it...
They loved e food, they say is nice..they ask for more.
They enjoyed BINGO game, 1 of them esp grabbing my hand everytime she realized she jus missed a number..
They were excited over lucky draw, saying so many thank you when they won a prize.
They were so happy when we handed them e door gifts, an old lady came forward to give me a hug & i was even more shocked when she planted a kiss on my cheek. She held my hand & wif tears in her eyes, she told me she's already 81 & living alone..
Some in wheelchairs, some blind, some crippled..but i saw their smiles & i knew we had made their day=)
